Saturday, September 30th • Bar opens 8PM, Green Room 9PM, Club 10PM
We celebrate 20 years of Rush Hour, the renowned Dutch record label and distributor based in Amsterdam, with label co-founder Antal and Chicago’s Ron Trent.
Antal has gained acclaim not only through the running of his label, but also through his incredible and diverse record collection on display in his DJ sets. Ron Trent is a legend of house music in his own right, having made his mark on dance music history with the founding of the Prescription imprint in 1993. He recently released a 24-track compilation of some its finest cuts, “Prescription: Word, Sound, and Power,” on Rush Hour earlier this year. He joins Antal for what promises to be a musically unique and adventurous night.
Chicago’s Sassmouth is a resident DJ at Smart Bar and also a resident of one of San Francisco’s most respected nights, As You Like It. An impeccable house DJ, she joins us on this special evening to make her Flash debut in the Green Room. Navbox & Adrian Loving on opening duties.
Your evening begins with DJ Oso Fresh and DJ Soul playing a unique blend of deep house and underground hip hop on the main floor starting at 8PM. Not to be missed.

ANTAL:
As a DJ and ‘musicologist’, there are few more serious than Antal. Trying to sum up the musical world of the Rush Hour founder with a few loose signifiers like house or techno would be futile.
Sure, everyone in the industry claims to have been music obsessives since youth, but few have taken it as far as this Dutchman. As a DJ who prefers proper tools like E&S or Rane rotary mixers and Dope Real isolators, since 1996 he has played all across Europe, Australia, Asia and both North and South America. Unlike many, though, he has a wealth and depth of music to call on that is so vast you never quite know what you are going to get: he is as comfortable spinning Chicago and Detroit influenced house as he is rare Afro funk, forgotten disco and everything in between.
Of course, Antal also runs the mighty Rush Hour Records in Amsterdam with a close group of hard working people. It’s a vast empire that encompasses a reliable distribution wing, sub label Kindred Spirits as well as a much-loved record store chock full of vinyl bought during on- going crate digging trips around the world. The label, meanwhile, releases house and techno from the vanguard at the same time as re- issuing long forgotten classics that serve to educate whole new generations about what has gone before. You could say Antal himself serves the same purpose when DJing.
RON TRENT:
A perennial presence in music since the early 90’s, Ron Trent pulls no punches!
Considered to be one of the architects of the Chicago music scene, Ron studied and collected various types of music as a young boy, taking cues from his father who ran a record pool in the late 70’s. Later, becoming a respected DJ in his early teens in the mid 80’s. Ron began to work on his own productions, which lead to his first release, the highly recognized classic “Altered States” in 1990, giving him international acclaim. Through his 13 year old Prescription Records, Ron has notched up an extensive back catalogue of his own productions and introduced several key players. Prescription Records is widely regarded as one of the most influential Deep House imprints of the period.
