Bernard Mavritte (Piano/Vocals)

The multitalented and gifted Bernard Mavritte was born in Washington, D.C. where he received his early education. He is a graduate from The Howard University School of Music where he majored in Music Education and Vocal Studies. His Voice coach, Carolyn V. Grant, was the same vocal coach who taught opera Diva, Jessye Norman. While at Howard he sang in the University Choir and Concert Choir, working under Dr. Warner Lawson and Evelyn D. White. Many of the techniques Dr. Lawson and Mrs. White used with the choir, Bernard uses with the choral groups he conducts. He is considered a “Singer’s Singer”, one who other singers hold in high esteem. After finishing Howard, he taught Vocal Music in the D.C. Schools for over thirty years. In 1965 he toured Europe as the Assistant Musical Director for James Baldwin’s play, “The Amen Corner”, starring the late Claudia McNeal and an all star Black cast. He also was selected to serve as the Choral Musical Director for the Tony Award winning play, “The Great White Hope” starring James Earl Jones and Jane Alexander. One of his own compositions, “Trouble Here Below” was used in the production. He was one of the featured performers for the Bicentennial celebration held at the Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts. A prolific composer, Bernard has been blessed to have composed over 300 musical compositions which include: Gospel Music, Inspirational Music, Anthems, Hymns, Children Songs, Show Tunes, Ballads and other musical genre. He is the CEO of his own publishing company Branches Music.
