Bottled Up (Maximum PELT Records, DC):
Bottled Up is a DC rock and roll quintet growing its roots from surf, new-wave, 70’s rock, and punk ethos. Founded in Oakland, CA by Nikhil Rao (former Kid Quazar, Seasick!, and Shari La La’s), he restarted the project with a new line-up of local DC musicians. They just put out their energetic lo-fi EP on cassette with Chicago garage/experimental label Maximum PELT Records, and were christened by Ian MacKaye himself at Fort Reno Festival 2017.
WAE (Friends Records, Baltimore):
Caleb Moore has reformed the live Wae band, which is now in it’s third incarnation, featuring bass by Beau Cole (Citrine, Lands & Peoples, Raindeer), keys by Dan Whatley (Other Colors) and drums by Eric Rosario (Shinji). Previously, Caleb has released albums with Lands & Peoples, and various ambient works under the name Dead Drums.
A new Post-Punk/New-Wave project formed in DC, recently invited to play at the RAW artist showcase at Howard Theatre. Play3r walks the fine line between electronic, rock, and post-punk jams to create blissful indie rock tracks.
VIU is a new three piece experimental rock union from DC encapsulating the genres of blues, space rock, progressive, fusion and 90s alternative. Influenced by Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Neu! Yes, Genesis, Return to forever, Radiohead, Built to Spill & Mogwai. Each song is a journey that travels though structured and jam elements with various tempos, exploding walls of sound, floaty dream sequences, streams of consciousness and a good share of communication with alien beings through a vast array of guitar effects and hypnotic grooves.
