Eric Felten Jazz Orchestra (Big Band) “Duke Ellington Nutcracker

“In one of our favorite local December traditions, local trombonist Eric Felten leads his big band through Duke Ellington’s festive reinterpretation of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite at Blues Alley, as well as a selection of swingin’ holiday jazz standards.” ~ The Washington Post

“Is Eric Felten a trombonist who sings or a singer who plays trombone?” asks JazzTimes. Eric, according to All About Jazz, “is a crooner who also plays a mean trombone, and does both equally well.” He’s “a formidable trombonist” JazzTimes writes, and his “voice is smooth enough to merit Connick comparisons.” Critics have compared Eric’s “singing to that of Michael Bublé or Harry Connick,” notes Donald Clarke, author of The Penguin Encyclopedia of Popular Music. “But worthy as those gentlemen are, I find Felten’s singing more charming, more personal, more intimate, as though one of your best buddies could sing. He is a crooner with style.”
