Jeff Lebowski aka The Dude has a pretty easy going life. Bowling, White Russians, a rug that really ties the room together. He only has one problem: he shares his name with a millionaire whose wife owes money to a dangerous loanshark and has resultantly been kidnapped. After the Dude is assaulted due to this mistaken identity, he gets sucked into the weird world of the other Lebowski aka the Big Lebowski, with the Dude and his friend both trying to solve the mystery and just trying to get out of it. The film wasn’t a box office success on release despite positive reviews, but its odd characters and original dialogue style has catapulted the film to being a cult classic spawning a yearly festival, a mock religion, and two African spider species. The The Library of Congress selected for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2014 for its significance. A spin-off film Going Places is currently being written and directed by John Turturro centering on his character The Jesus.
