MIGHTYKAT:
MightyKat was born with a sixth sense for rhythm. A native Montrealer, she launched her career in 1998 and released her first mix CD “Confidence” in 2001, earning her praise both at home and abroad. Since then, she’s become a player on the international scene while continuing to organize and promote local events. She is also label partner of Pronto Musique and Release The Pressure with producer, Miguel Graça.

Counting her main influences as jazz, disco, and soul, MK’s unique sound bridges eclectic house and the funkier side of techno. Her sophisticated style, refined track selection, and tight mixing skills define her signature sound, while her love of the dance floor drives her musical intuition wherever she plays.

A veteran of the Montreal electronic music scene, MK is now working as musical director for the “Village Éphémère” and “Hivernal” two seasonal festivals base in Montreal. From 2003 to 2007, she founded with Vincent Lemieux, the wildly successful “Dizzy” night, at Salon Daomé, introducing to the city Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Zip, Sammy Dee, Junction SM. In the past decade, she’s held down several residencies at local clubs such as Stereo and also played alongside with M.A.N.D.Y, Matthias Meyer, Atish, Thugfucker, Cassy, dOP, Droog, Lee Foss, Richie Hawtin, Derrick L. Carter, Doc Martin, and many more…

She is a regular guest at Piknic Electronik, and played Igloofest in 2010 and 2015. She performed at Montreal’s International Jazz Festival in both 2002 & 2006, FCMM’s Media Lounge, BBCM’s Red Party, and was the musical programmer for Quebec’s prestigious comic awards, the Gala Des Oliviers from 2005-2007.

Internationally, she’s been heard bringing down the house at prestigious clubs like Club der visionnares (Berlin), The Panther Room/Output (NYC), The Marcy Hotel and Bunker (NYC), Batofar and Nouveau Casino (Paris), Weetamix (Geneva), MetroDance club (Spain), and held down a monthly residency at Rome’s club Hulala in Italy. One of the first international guests at La Santanerra in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, she left her indelible mark at 2012 and 2013 BPM festival (Playa Del Carmen) and also at WMC Miami “Ship Of Fool” (Get physical/Listed after party) 2013-2014 and Cityfox closing party 2014.

Developing her sound as a producer, she released her first remix “And on now” on Pronto Musique. Her true passion for the music, continue to propel her towards exciting new music projects for 2015.

TARA BROOKS:
“Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.”

-Victor Hugo

There is a line where the dark fuses with the light, the surreal with the sublime, the graceful with the powerful; it is within this line that Tara Brooks has carved out her truly distinct sound. Whether playing at an intimate club, a packed festival or a magical sunrise deep in the Burning Man Playa, Tara’s music envelopes the crowd, stirring them with deep grooves, hypnotic rhythms and haunting melodies. Behind the decks, her passion and love for music is contagious– Savoring every moment her smile beams out to a sea of faces who are right there with her, dancing away and smiling right back.

Growing up in a house where the warm melodies of old records constantly filled the air, the Southern California-born Tara began absorbing music at a very early age. She grew up having a love and appreciation for everything from classical to classic rock, from hip-hop to punk and everything in between. But it was within the Los Angeles underground dance scene where Tara ultimately found her calling.

Struck by the power of the music and the loving vibe of the scene, Tara immediately knew she had to be a part of it. Learning on vinyl, Tara put her first needle on a record in 2007 and hasn’t looked back since. With her unique sound, loving energy and fierce work ethic leading the charge, Tara has played some of the most respected venues both domestic and abroad including The BPM Festival, WMC Space, Lightning in a Bottle, Sound (Los Angeles), PublicWorks (SF) Verboten (New York) and of course a little place she calls Home, Burning Man.

When she’s not touring, you can find Tara locked in the studio. Rather then focusing on genre or style, Tara is sonically inspired by personal experience and connection with her environment. Always striving to translate a specific feeling or moment, Tara creates a sound that is all her own: Compelling, sophisticated, haunting and healing, piercing your heart and invigorating your soul.

Whether it’s through production or playing, Tara’s continued passion for sharing her music knows no bounds. From being Desert Hearts and Subtract Music’s newest resident to kicking of the new year with Louie Fresco’s MEXA Records BPM party and Costa Rica’s Envision Festival along with several productions and remixes being set for release the future is filled with light for Tara Brooks as she continues to do what she loves her way and always from the heart.
