Story District returns to the Lincoln with another night of outstanding, hilarious, and poignant true stories. This cast of eight stories was deemed the best by a panel of judges and narrowed down from more than 150 stories that were told on the Story District stage over the course of a year (November 2016 throug October 2017).
This year’s judges:
Farah Lawal Harris, Artistic Director of Young Playwrights Theatre • Robert Revere, Former director of Washington Storytellers Theatre and founder of the Speakeasy • Mazi Mutafa, Director of Words, Beats, & Life • Britney Abrahams, Co-founder/producer storytelling podcastYou Had Me At Black • Hanna Rosin, Author, producer/host on NPR’s Invisibilia
The event is best described by the Washington Post: “At its best, Story District is a spellbinding night of spoken word: Average people onstage telling true-life stories of love, high school foibles, childhood vacations or restaurant jobs, delivered without notes and without a net. Some provoke knowing laughter; others reduce the room to silence. Your average Story District show is very good, but theTop Shelf performance should be a knockout: A panel of judges have selected their favorite stories from a year’s worth of shows and invited their authors back for a greatest-hits show. Tales of haunting, booze and courtship are all on the docket: Truly something for everyone.”
