The TEN: Jews and Muslims in America

Celebrate the Jewish holiday of Shavuot at The TEN – Sixth & I’s innovative take on the holiday traditionally celebrated by studying Torah and enjoying the first fruits of the harvest. The evening features a conversation, prayer service, and dialogue with American Muslim and Jewish leaders.

Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg and Imam Abdullah Antepli discuss Jewish-Muslim relationships in America today. Where are the similarities between the two religious and ethnic groups? They’ll consider new solutions to difficult topics while studying ancient texts together.

The evening’s schedule includes:

6:30 pm – Enjoy light appetizers from local chefs specializing in food from a selection of Muslim countries and Ashkenazi, Sephardic, and Mizrahi Jewish cuisines.

7:15 pm – Conversation with Jeffrey Goldberg and Imam Abdullah Antepli.

8:30 pm – Pray together: the Muslim Isha and the Jewish Ma’ariv (evening) prayer services.

8:45 pm – Enjoy desserts and discuss the evening’s event in break-out groups with the rabbis of Sixth & I and Muslim thought leaders including Wajahat Ali and young adult Muslim leaders from the Yaro Collective of Greater DC, a multi-group network of local Muslims.
